Historic Preservation

US Naval Home
Philadelphia, PA

William Strickland's 1833 naval home and hospital also served as the first home of the US Naval Academy. The National Register-listed and National Historic Landmark building had been neglected and in disrepair when an arson fire caused significant damage. Keast & Hood Co.'s emergency assessment of the structure yielded the conclusion that most of the building could be saved and restored. The report became the basis of a reconstruction agreement between the building's owner and the City of Philadelphia. Keast & Hood Co. was also retained by the city to review the structural repair documentation and assure conformance to the Department of the Interior standards for preservation work.
