Keast & Hood Co. performed a comprehensive engineering assessment, including extensive historical research and documentation, on the novel and obsolete structural features of the 1902 Georgian Revival addition to the colonial capitol. The original design utilized structural assemblies of terra cotta tile flat arches and tile decks supported on wrought iron and steel framing. A variety of destructive and nondestructive tests were used to define the composition, strength, material properties, and allowable loadings for the terra cotta and wrought iron. Repairs were designed for deficient elements as necessary.
