New Construction

Stellar-Chance Laboratories
University of Pennsylvania
Philadelphia, PA

Also known as Biomedical Research Building One, the new twelve-story, mixed-use facility includes a central chilled water production plant for a quarter of the UPENN campus, eight floors of biomedical research labs, and two levels of cooling towers and mechanical equipment. Built in two distinct phases, the building's significant structural features include high levels of vibration control to isolate mechanical and research functions, high-bay construction within the lower mechanical space, and a long-span transfer level to accommodate the varying column bay requirements within the building.
