Renovation, Addition, Adaptive Reuse

Since 1924, the Curtis Institute of Music has offered full-scholarship music education. The school acquired a mid-block parcel of land for a new education and residence building. Structural engineering for the 95,000 sf, nine-story, reinforced concrete building was complicated by a mid-block location and retention of two historic façades that flank the new structure. Acoustic detailing, a fifth-level outdoor plaza, and clear-span rehearsal spaces were structural challenges. LEED Gold Certification is pending.
