Christopher Columbus Memorial
Philadelphia, PA

Dedicated in 1992 to celebrate the 500th anniversary of Columbus' initial voyage to America, the monument is a 106' tall obelisk constructed of stainless steel and resting on a stone-clad concrete base. The whimsical triangulated space frame is comprised of stainless steel pipe chords and angles. The upper 74' section was fabricated in a single piece. The jointed stone appearance of the stainless steel cladding was achieved by cantilevering 1/4" thick panels from the main structure.
