Statue of Liberty National Monument
Liberty Island, NY
Keast & Hood Co. has served as part of a multi-disciplined renovation team since 2009. Work has evolved from initial replacement of antiquated handrails on the double helix stair within the statue to ongoing reconstruction of the interior of the ten-story pedestal. The result will be a renewed monument featuring two separate enclosed, fire-rated and pressurized stairs, a new elevator, and a variety of associated improvements to enable the monument to safely serve visitors through the 21st century. Designed and documented completely in Revit, the design responds to very tight space constraints while weaving the new structure around Gustave Eiffel’s statue hold-down girders.
