Structural Investigation, Intervention
Arch Street Friends Meeting House
Philadelphia, PA
A structural evaluation of the ca. 1810 building found the long-span, heavy-timber roof was severely weakened by fungal decay, a consequence of long-term leaks. An emergency temporary shoring effort secured the trusses while a new structural intervention was designed for permanent stabilization. New clear-span steel reinforcements were designed and installed in small pieces without cutting or removing any of the original historic roof structure.
