Structural Investigation

Keast & Hood Co. is a pioneer in the use of nondestructive and minimally destructive techniques for assessing the condition of existing structures. The tests provide detailed information about internal or concealed conditions without significant harm to structures or finishes:

  • Core sampling, experimental ultrasound techniques, and electronic drill resistance measurement in heavy timber structures is used to determine existence of internal wood decay or damage.
  • The flat-jack method is used to determine the in situ stresses and ultimate load capacity in existing brick masonry.
  • A boroscope is used to view inaccessible or confined spaces by drilling a small hole through the structure.
