Covered Bridge Research
National
In a five-year research contract under the National Historic Covered Bridge Preservation Program, Keast & Hood Co. collaborated with Dr. Terry L. Amburgey of the Mississippi State University Forest Products Laboratory to conduct field and lab research to find better means of protecting historic covered bridges from fire. The research found that borates currently used to protect timber structures from decay fungi and insects may also be used to increase fire resistance.
