Franklin Court
Philadelphia, PA

Franklin Court is comprised of the reconstructed Franklin houses along Market Street, a large secluded urban courtyard featuring abstract sculptural representations of Franklin's house and print shop, and an underground museum with a contiguous auditorium. The architectural development of the project was based on an extensive archeological program conducted by the National Park Service. The structural systems include all-welded tube-steel frames representing the house and print shop ghost structures and a cast-in-place concrete structure for the underground museum. The reconstructed houses along Market street utilize contemporary steel structures inserted within the original, historic brick walls. The complex is internationally recognized and was awarded a presidential citation in 1984.
