Keast & Hood Co. engineered an addition to a 1963 poured concrete and brick auditorium. The wide expanse of the space necessitated long-span bar joists and deep columns to support the roof. The program included a 615-seat auditorium, backstage area and scene shop, rehearsal and dressing rooms, and a choral room, with a stepped roof demarcating each of these interior areas in the building's exterior form. Structural design was complicated by the many roof levels at various elevations and tight coordination with MEP equipment, ductwork, and piping beneath the auditorium's stage and sloped floor.
