As part of the Perelman Quadrangle project, the interiors were renovated, and an underground addition was constructed on the 1894 building that served as the first student union building on an American college campus. The renovation restored the historic character of the building while upgrading HVAC, electrical, and communication systems and improving elevators and fire stairways. The underground addition employs a flat-plate concrete structure to support a landscaped plaza.
