Music Building Renovation & Addition
University of Pennsylvania
Philadelphia, PA

The Music Building and neighboring Morgan Building were designed in the late 19th Century. Both buildings have brick masonry facades with bluestone bases and terra cotta ornamentation. Keast & Hood Co. provided structural engineering for an interior and exterior renovation of the Music Building and a new concrete-framed rear addition. The project involved demolition of the Music Building Annex and its connecting link and a full exterior restoration. The new addition features exterior terra cotta rain screen walls, acoustically-isolated classrooms, practice rooms, and faculty offices. The project was designed to achieve LEED Silver certification, anticipated as Penn’s first building to achieve that honor.
