Mercer Museum Addition
Doylestown, PA
The Mercer Museum is a six-story concrete castle built in 1916 by historian and archaelogist Henry Mercer. It houses a vast collection of pre-Industrial Revolution tools and artifacts. Keast & Hood Co. provided structural design for a single-story concrete and structural steel addition containing a learning center and gallery. The unique structure of the original building required careful detailing including rough-board, form-finished concrete walls and exposed structural steel. Sustainable features include a green roof, recycled-content wall panels, and stormwater management.
