Webster Hall, a 1901 former auditorium structure, underwent interior and exterior additions to house a Special Collections Library. Interior additions included a steel-framed replacement of the original wood floor, and a four-story, flat-plate concrete structure to house book stacks. Exterior additions included a 4,000 square foot underground structure for additional rare book storage. Maximizing clear-story height within the building, and ensuring seismic isolation from the existing structure were project requirements. A highly refined concrete specification permitted the structure to also serve as the architectural finish material.
