Religious
Old Saint Joseph’s Church
Philadelphia, PA
The first Catholic church in the US when it was founded in 1733, Old Saint Joseph's is tucked into an alley near Independence Hall. The current brick and wood building was constructed in 1839 to house the then recently-formed Saint Joseph's College. When failure of the church's wood roof trusses closed the sanctuary, Keast & Hood Co. performed an emergency repair, stabilizing the existing wood trusses with a longitudinal steel truss. Other preservation efforts at the church are ongoing.
