Papadakis Integrated Sciences Building
Drexel University, Philadelphia, PA

Keast & Hood Co. worked closely with its client and structural partner Halcrow Yolles of Toronto to provide structural design for the six-story, 120,000-sf science building. A true collaboration, Halcrow Yolles was responsible for overall coordination and designed lateral systems, foundations, and the steel atrium roof framing. Keast & Hood Co. was responsible for contractor coordination, designed all floor framing and columns, and as engineer-of-record, oversaw all of the structural work. A key to project success was the selection and design of a hybrid, composite concrete floor framing system that accommodated long spans while offering savings in formwork, floor-to-floor height, schedule, and cost vs. more conventional framing options.
