Devlin Center for Science and Technology
La Salle University

To accommodate the growth of La Salle University's technology-driven curricula, a new Center for Science and Technology was conceived. Keast & Hood Co. provided structural design for a 20,000 square foot addition and 80,000 square foot renovation. The modern classroom and laboratory building features an open floor plan to encourage collaboration and cross-disciplinary learning. Structural challenges included creating a shallow structure for the addition to enable matching existing 12’ floor-to-floor heights; seismic analysis of the existing building to justify elimination of an expansion joint; and design for vegetated green roofs on both the addition and the existing building.
